The Day of the African Child: declarations to take place in Senegal and The Gambia

June 16th is the Day of the African Child! This year’s theme is about our collective responsibility to end “harmful social and cultural practices affecting children.” Across the countries Tostan works in, over 6,500 communities have already publicly declared their abandonment of female genital cutting and child/forced marriage.

On June 16th, 242 communities in Kolda, Southern Senegal, and 42 communities in Basse, The Gambia will join them. Coupled with the exciting news that 30 communities abandoned FGC in Mali on June 8th, this is a busy month!
