Meet the Individuals Driving Change in Kenya: The Story of Woman Podcast

| By Natalie Roberts

We’re excited to announce our first ever podcast series. We’ve collaborated with Story of Woman, to explore FGM/C within two different Kenyan communities, one Maasai and one Somali. We combine individual stories and testimonies with expert input from our very own Sean Callaghan and Kirigo Njenga about what our research and advocacy efforts say about the Maasai and Somali communities in Kenya.

Subscribe to hear these episodes.

The podcast goes behind the headlines and numbers we often see, bringing you first hand accounts and experiences of community members who are working to end FGM/C. The series takes listeners to Maasai villages and Nairobi neighbourhoods, offering deep insight into the human stories behind FGM/C. It reveals both the devastating impacts of this form of gender based violence and the extraordinary resilience of those leading the movement to end it—through the voices of individuals and communities reclaiming their narratives, advancing change, and inspiring a global movement.

The stories coupled with testimonies from Kirigo and Sean show evidence of change, hope and communities empowering themselves to create better futures. But change requires commitment from communities, grassroots movements and organisations like Orchid project. We are dedicated to ending FGM/C. We catalyse this movement in three ways: by generating research on the practice, building movements, supporting civil society organisations to unite and influence change together and through advocacy efforts and campaigning, where we raise the voices of women and girls to influence global and regional policies to end FGM/C.
