FGM/C comprises all procedures that involve partial or total removal of the external female genitalia, or other injury to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons. It is used to control the sexuality, bodies and lives of women and girls.
It is not a religious requirement and it is carried out without consent, stripping individuals of their fundamental right to make decisions about their own bodies.
FGM/C can result in severe complications. These include: severe bleeding, menstrual issues, sexual health problems, complications during childbirth and mental health issues. FGM/C can also result in death.
We research where FGM/C occurs, who it affects, and what helps to stop it, to guide action to end the practice.
Through our advocacy efforts, we push for action and funding worldwide to end FGM/C.
In our movement building we create and support strong regional and global networks that work together to end FGM/C.
